Ferguson Creek

Ferguson Creek

The next drainage south of Big Cottonwood Canyon, Ferguson Creek was named after Isaac Ferguson, an early pioneer who lived nearby. Periodically, it has been the genesis of local bouts of gold fever, the claims usually the fodder of tall tales. Now the gold in "them thar hills" is a premier rock-climbing venue.

The creek cuts through a short, steep canyon and empties into Big Cottonwood Creek. Although it's an ephemeral creek, when water flows in the streambed, it's claimed by the Salt Lake City Department of Public Utilities and used for exchange agreements.
